Skyline Endoscopy Center opened in December 2004.  We are licensed as an ambulatory surgery center and specialize in endoscopy procedures.  We perform procedures on an average of 650 patients each month.*  All five of our physicians are board certified gastroenterologists.  We use the latest technology.  See below for more on our quality metrics and the technology we use.

Adenoma Detection Rate

Adenoma detection rate is the percent of patients in whom one or more precancerous polyps (adenomas) are found.  The expected standard is greater than 25% in men and greater than 15% in women.  Skyline Endoscopy Center physicians’ average adenoma detection rate in men is 63.0%.*  Skyline Endoscopy Center physicians’ average adenoma detection rate in women is 47.8%.*

Perforation

Perforation is a potential serious complication of a colonoscopy which may require surgery.  Incidence of a perforation is expected to be less than 1 in 1,000 patients.  Skyline Endoscopy Center physicians’ perforation rate is 0 in 5073 patients.*

Cecal Intubation Rate

Cecal intubation rate is the percentage of patients in whom the cecum (beginning of colon) is reached.  The expected standard is greater than 90% of all cases and greater than 95% in screening colonoscopies in healthy adults.  Skyline Endoscopy Center physicians’ average cecal intubation rate is 99.4%.*

Withdrawal time

Withdrawal time is the amount of time taken to withdraw the colonoscope and examine the colon, looking for polyps.  Expected standard is greater than 6 minutes.  Skyline Endoscopy Center physicians’ average withdrawal time is 10.5 minutes.*

Technology

Skyline Endoscopy Center uses the latest endoscopic technology to help diagnose disease in the upper and lower gastrointestinal (GI) tract.  Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths for men and women in the U.S.

Compared to conventional systems, high-definition endoscopy combined with Narrow Band ImagingTM provides our physicians with the sharpest images and better contrast, which in turn may help them to better observe lesions in the colon.  As a result, our physicians provide their patients with more accurate diagnoses.

The equipment used by Skyline Endoscopy is the world’s first endoscope platform to deliver high-definition television (HDTV) and Narrow Band ImagingTM (NBI).  The HDTV system provides images of the colon with the highest level of detail and color.  NBI is an imaging technology which takes advantage of the light absorption properties of human tissue.  The result is a remarkably clear view of fine capillary patterns, which allows physicians to better visualize areas of possible concern.

Skyline Endoscopy Center also utilizes carbon dioxide instead of air to insufflate the colon for visualization during the colonoscopy.  Carbon dioxide is absorbed by the human body approximately 150 times faster than conventional air.  This rapid absorption keeps abdominal distention and related pain to a minimum both during and after the procedure.  Patients are much more comfortable when recovering from their procedure.

Monitoring our patient outcomes is very important to us.  Our ASC’s quality management program provides us with immediate feedback on care-related events which allows us to quickly address delivery of care issues.  Our ASC monitors fifty or more performance measures important to us and our licensing and accreditation organizations.  These measures are benchmarked internally and regularly shared with our staff and governing board.  We also use external benchmarking to compare our performance against other ASCs.   Using our own data, we can focus our attention and resources in specific areas to improve patient care and day-to-day business activities.  Our goal is to optimize your experience while under our care, therefore we hope you will complete our patient satisfaction survey questionnaire.  This provides us with yet another opportunity to improve how we deliver care.
